The World’s Hardest Game is an iPhone app, but can also be found in Play Store, developed by Addicting Games which has rapidly increased in popularity. You will soon find out why. It’s a game that actually lives up to its title, so it is not meant to be played by those faint of heart.
The idea behind this game is fairly simple. You are in control of a red square and all you have to do is move that red square to a green zone. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Wrong!!! Reaching the green zone is made impossible by some blue circles which are constantly and rapidly moving between where you are and where you have to go. If that wasn’t enough, on your way to the green zone you have to collect the yellow circles. If you do not, the green zone is not accessible. That’s that. It’s harder than you expect.
At first glance, you may think that the game’s difficulty is overrated, but I give you five to ten minutes to start pulling your hair out. The World’s Hardest Game will do that to you. That is why I said that it is not for the faint of heart.
And just to mess with your head, the game lets you built some confidence before it crushes you. Even if you get past the first few levels with flying colors and you think that “yeah! I can do this!” you reach a level so hard that it will make you throw your device through an open window. That being said, if you play and at first you think that it’s too easy, don’t get your hopes up. You will fall down on your behind and you will not know what hit you.
As if The World’s Hardest Game weren’t difficult enough, it consists of 30 levels. It’s hard to believe that you will finish it before completely losing your mind, but you are more than welcome to at least try.
There aren’t many tricks along the way and those revealed to you will barely help you. For instance, you will learn that you don’t have to keep your finger on the red square in order to control it, you can do this from any point on your screen. This helps you because keeping your finger exactly on the square will kind of blur your vision. Other tricks will come to you by playing the game, like good hiding places or whatnot.
The World’s Hardest Game has a very simplistic presentation. If you think about it, this is a good thing. You don’t need many distractions when playing the game in which good reflexes and sudden movements are required. The graphics are also simple, but together with the extremely difficult levels, they serve the purpose of reaching the end goal.
One aspect that I liked (and hated at the same time) about The World’s Hardest Game is that at the beginning of each level you get a taunting message from the game, making you think that you are not good enough to be playing this game. Some of them are quite harsh.
When I said that this game is not for everybody I really did mean it. This game targets perfectionist, those gamers who always play games in hard mode. For the average iPhone owner, this game is taunting and frustrating and will likely not find it very fun to play. Many will be curious to play The World’s Hardest Game, but very few will stick with it and make an effort to finish it.
